Principal Mining Engineer
SRK Consulting (UK)
David is a mining engineer with 35 years’ experience. He spent 11 years working on world class mining operations, both coal and hard rock, in various roles, before joining SRK. With SRK, David has led technical studies, due diligence reviews for acquisitions, stock exchange listings and project finance, and project optimization studies. David’s current focus is on helping mines improve their efficiency services through using mining technology as well as helping clients develop effective strategies for reducing carbon emissions. How to eat the net-zero elephant? One bite at a time
Mining is an energy intensive process which has little choice in where it can take place and requires flexibility to efficiently mine orebodies shaped by geological processes. Whilst some operations are fortunate to be located in areas with low emission electricity and have orebodies which enable the electrification of the mining process, many are not. In order to balance the dilemma of producing the critical minerals needed locally AND with minimal emissions, new approaches are required. In this talk David will give practical examples on how companies can walk the net-zero path by starting with proven technologies and developing strategies to adopt new technologies as they become available as well as to link their efforts in reducing the emissions of downstream customers.
